What it means to LEED

The Taku building is extremely proud to be the first LEED certified building in the Yukon. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. It provides independent verification that a building’s design, construction, operations and ongoing maintenance are resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy and cost effective.

LEED certification means a healthier, more productive work place, and reduced stress on the environment by encouraging energy and resource efficiency.

The LEED plaque on the Taku is a mark of quality and achievement in green building.

Sustainable living and working is more than good business. It’s the right thing to do.

It’s the right thing to do for your workplace: employees are happier and more productive with the fresh air, opening windows and natural light of a LEED building. It’s the right thing to do for the environment: from energy efficient heating to bike racks to in-house recycling we make it easy to do the right thing for the environment and still concentrate on your business.

“We are a carbon neutral company and we place a high emphasis on sustainability. We appreciate the ground-breaking efforts that The Taku Building is making in this regard.

Leslie Mihalik, P.Eng.,

Comfort, Cleanliness and Easy Access

Three maintenance and operations complaints dominate in office spaces:

  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
  • Cleanliness
  • Elevators.

In the Taku, because we are LEED certified, these concerns disappear.

  • LEED accreditation means the Taku has met a much higher standard than buildings that are simply built to code. LEED means a healthier working and living environment with a very high rate of clean air exchange, windows that open, individual temperature heating and cooling in each office and 5 energy efficient furnaces.
  • Common Area is cleaned daily. Our janitors use environmentally friendly products with janitorial options available for every tenant.
  • Yes, we have universal access with clean, professional elevator service to each floor.
